a reproduction of Historical Flask
and an innovated Flask

From the inspiration of reproducing a 15th century historical blue and white flask (which is a China exported porcelain that ordered by a Spain and Portugal King Philip II), to develop a contemporary vessel. Castile and Leon quartered by a cross shield decorated on the reproduction antique vessel symbolized power and wealth; however power and wealth in modern days can be represented by landmarks such as tall towers in metropolis and citizen’s ability to afford to own their pets, so that I drew on the innovated vessel. On the vessels' reversed side, I drew a self-portrait of studying with computer and stacking books on the innovated flask, to replace the scholar lecturing on the antique reproduction flask. It is because nowadays' ways of learning is to gather knowledge from multiple sources rather than only taught by instructors; and the ancient Chinese landscape was replaced by the city skylines of Hong Kong and Calgary, which is my home town and the city I was studying art during the time of production.
